Alberta plans to expand the passenger rail transport

The Alberta government has allocated €6.1 million (CA$9 million) to create a master plan for passenger rail transport to meet the needs of the growing population. Specialist consultants are to draw up this master plan by summer 2025. Included in the government's proposals are commuter rail networks around Calgary and Edmonton including connections to the airports, passenger rail transport lines from Calgary and Edmonton to the Rocky Mountain Parks and between Calgary and Edmonton, as well as Light-Rail Transit (LRT) in Edmonton and Calgary. The plan also provides for an organisation operated by the Province of Alberta to develop infrastructure and oversee operations, fare collection, and maintenance.
