Azerbaijani state railway ADY has declared its intention to achieve a CO2-neutral railway network by 2030. Under this goal, ADY has formalised a new partnership with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to support the decarbonisation efforts. ADY emphasised that rail transport in Azerbaijan accounts for only 1.12% of the country's energy consumption. Greenhouse gas emissions are below 0.5%. By 2023, 100% of passenger rail transport and 80% of rail freight transport are to be powered by electricity.
