Advancement completed in BBT

The last tunnel boring machine (TBM) in construction lot H61 Mauls has completed the excavation of the western main tunnel tube of the Brenner Base Tunnel (BBT), marking the end of the excavation of the railway tubes on the Italian section of the project. The TBM Flavia started in April 2019 and covered 14,300 m, installing around 65,000 tunnel segments. In April 2023, the TBM Flavia came to a standstill due to the high overburden and low strength of the fractured rock, blocking the advance. The TBMs Serena and Virginia had already reached the Brenner border. In total, the three TBMs have constructed almost 43 km of tunnel towards Brenner.
