The Spanish railway infrastructure manager Adif has awarded contracts to modernise more than 800 level crossings for €13.2 million. Signalling technology provider Electrosistemas Bach (Electrans) from Barcelona will carry out the work in the north-east and south, Enclavamientos y Señalización Ferroviaria Enyse in the north and north-west. The work will modernise systems and elements of class A2 level crossings with light and sound signals and pedestrian-only crossings or crossings for pedestrians and livestock, as well as class A3 and A4 with half-barriers, double half-barriers, or automatic or interlocked barriers on the existing broad-gauge and metre-gauge network. The upgrade includes new hardware and software, central control of the systems, and recording devices via the Adif communication network, as well as camera and video analysis-based obstacle detection systems.
