The Spanish railway infrastructure operator Adif has invested €107 million in adapting the Madrid – Zaragoza line for intermodal transport on the railway motorway. The work included adapting 40 overpasses and 26 tunnels in the provinces of Madrid, Guadalajara, Soria, and Zaragoza to the dimensions of the trailers. The connecting tracks in Arcos de Jalón and Sigüenza were extended by 750 m at a cost of €8.9 million. Adif also invested €20 million in rails and sleepers.
