The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has agreed a loan of €183 million (US$200 million) for extensions of the metro network in Nagpur in central India. The financing will be used in part for the planned expansion of four metro lines, which include the construction of 43.8 km of elevated lines and 32 stations on the Automotive Square – Kanhan, Prajapati Nagar – Transport Nagar, Khapri – Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation ESR, and Lokmanya Nagar – Hingna lines. ADB will also support the operator Maha Metro to improve the integration of metro stations with other public transport modes in the city. It will support the promotion of non-motorised transport and ensure the last mile to the outskirts of Nagpur. In addition, ADB will help Maha Metro develop a five-year action plan, provide advice on improving its digital project management platform and train staff in metro planning and management.
