The ActivUs consortium, comprising Acciona, CPB Contractors, UGL, SMEC and WSP, has started the design and construction phase for the main construction package of the Logan & Gold Coast Faster Rail project. The project is jointly funded by the Australian Federal Government and the federal state of Queensland and involves an investment of around EUR 3.5 billion (AUD 5.75 billion) to increase capacity and service quality on the Brisbane – Gold Coast corridor in time for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The core measure is the quadruple-track expansion over 20 km between Kuraby and Beenleigh, as well as preparatory work for the European Train Control System (ETCS). In addition, nine stations, including Kuraby, Loganlea and Beenleigh, will be modernised, five level crossings will be removed, and park-and-ride, pedestrian and cycle connections will be improved. The project will be implemented through a project alliance between the Department of Transport & Main Roads, Queensland Rail, and ActivUs. Early work is scheduled for the first half of 2026, with the start of main construction work scheduled for 2027.
