The Peruvian Ministry of Transport and Communications is planning a 900 km railway line from Chancay to Pucallpa, which will require investments of over €13.4 billion (US$14 billion). This line could become an important part of the Central Bioceanic Railway Corridor within the Chinese Belt and Road Initiative. The line is to cross the mountainous regions of Peru and will serve both rail freight and passenger rail transport. The pre-investment study will analyse the advantages and demand for the line. At the same time, the ministry is planning a line between Lima and Ica, which is to be completed by 2032 and will cost €6.2 billion.
