Government approves financing to build 260 km railway line

The Angolan government has approved funding for the construction of a 260 km railway line serving the provinces of Moxico and Lunda Sul. The €1.09 billion (US$1.2 billion) funding for the planning and construction of the line will be awarded to a joint venture between Portugal's Bento Pedroso and the Angolan subsidiary of Novonor group Odebrecht. The 1,067 mm gauge line will diverge at Luena in Moxico from the 1,344 km Benguela Railway, which links Lobito on the coast with Luau near the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
