DB to operate and maintain HSR network

DB International Operations, a subsidiary of German state railway DB, has been contracted by the Egyptian government to operate and maintain Egypt's high-speed rail (HSR) network. The contract, with a value in the billions of EUR, has a term of 15 years. The HSR network, which is currently under construction, will have a length of 2,000 km after completion. The first line between Alexandria, Cairo and the New Administrative Capital is scheduled to start operation in 2025. The infrastructure as well as rolling stock for passenger rail transport and rail freight transport will be supplied by a consortium of Siemens Mobility, Orascom and The Arab Constructor. The award of the operation to DB was announced back in August 2022.
