China Gezhouba Group Corporation (CGGC) has completed work to upgrade the 107.5 km Walvis Bay – Arandis railway line in Namibia. The section is part of the 201 km Walvis Bay – Kranzberg narrow-gauge line. The modernisation increased the maximum speed from 40 km/h to 80 km/h. Construction work started in November 2020. The contract is worth €54.4 million (NA$1.029 billion) and was 56% financed by the Namibian government and 44% by the African Development Bank (ADB).
